English Country Style Home
The
English Country Style Home has been around for
centuries. However, what most Americans perceive as
"English Country" is not necessarily the same as what is
true to the English.
The countryside
of England is filled with enormous country estates built for the
prominent upper class as a retreat from city life. These country
estates were the European architects dream; reflecting
the Georgian, Italian, Greek, and
French influences of that time period.
The "English
Country" influence that we see today reflects
not necessarily the magnitude of the home, but the
essence of its character
from the English
lifestyle.
We picture an
English Country home to be: small, rustic, and quaint...
...filled
with the aroma of scones baking
in the oven, floral chintz fabrics, and afternoon tea.
The exterior of the
home is cottage-like. Wrapped with stucco and stone, steep roofs with
flaring eaves rounded corners at the arched doors
and windows, prominent chimneys, and, of course, a picket fence
enclosing a beautiful English garden.
