The
roof systems you choose is one of the most important decisions you will make in planning your home because it takes the most beating from the outdoor
elements. If your roof system can't stand up to the sun, wind, rain,
hail, sleet, ice and snow then your home won't either.
There
are a number of different types of roofing systems and materials
available for your consideration-some great, others not so
great. Therefore, "BeWise" while you do your research
to find a roofing system that is perfect for your home.
When
considering the cost of a roofing system, you should not only
figure in the initial cost, but also how well the roof will
stand the test of time. If you cut corners, more likely than
not, you will end up with a cheap roof, which could cost more in
the long run by making needless repairs.
When
comparing roof systems, consider each roofing material's quality
and dependability as well as the its installation requirements
as this could make a big difference in the overall cost.
Don't
be fooled by material warranties either—read and
understand them carefully as some warranties are very limited on
what they will actually cover.
Okay,
now that I have warned you to "BeWise", let's move on.
There
are at least eight components required to complete a roof:
I
don't know how many times I've driven by different homes and
glanced up at the roof only to see buckles and bows which made
the roof appear unsightly and downright cheap.
I
personally want my roof to be and look solid, and I certainly
don't want to see any buckles where the sheathing joints meet or
bows between the rafters!
A
number of factors play a key role in creating a solid roof and I
will mention as many as I know of and have researched. However,
there could be others not listed here due to new products and
techniques evolving every day. Therefore it is "WISE"
to do some of your own research too.
