Second Empire Style Home

The one feature that sets this architectural style of the Second Empire Style Home apart from any other is its illustrious roof.

Created by Francois Mansart, a well respected French architect, this roof style has a design that allows for nearly an entire upper floor to be contained within it.

The Second Empire home appears to make a strong statement of masculinity for being a Victorian home.

With its hooded dormers extruding from the lower near-vertical portion of the roof line and less ornate ornamentations—you just can't call it feminine.

Common Second Empire features may include:

      Mansard Roof (Always)

      Hooded Dormers

      Scroll-like Corbels (at times paired)

      Symmetrical Window Placement on

      2-3 Stories Tall

      Large Porches
