Is it your dream to build a Waterfront Style Home, but feel you'll never be able to live anywhere near the water? I say, "go for it anyway!" "Live where you love it best!", that's my philosophy. Don't take me wrong, I don't necessarily mean that you must live in the geographical region of your choice - for some of you that's impossible. What I mean is that your home's style and/or interior décor should be based on the style where you would most like to live.
By capturing specific elements that are indigenous to a particular area, then recreating them in your own home, you can "live" wherever you desire. Therefore, if you dream of living by the lake or desire coastal living on Nantucket Bay, the Hawaiian Islands, Bali, the Caribbean, or on the French Riviera, incorporate that particular region's style into your home's architecture and interior décor.
For example: Nothing, in my opinion, is more tranquil and relaxing than the delightful sensation of a gentle ocean breeze and the sound of delicate waves rushing upon a sandy beach.
To bring the ocean to my midwest home, I designed and painted a beach house wall mural, pictured below, in my guest bath. Now, my guests can also enjoy "going to the beach" when visiting.

Colors of the waterfront homes are bright and airy. Eastern seaboard retreats are often decorated in nautical colors, reds, blues, yellows, and whites.
For Island style, Caribbean, as well as other tropical home designs, dull, dark, and dingy colors won't fit in here. When selecting colors for your Tropical House Plan, think of all the brilliant colors of a tropical ocean, sunset, flowers, and palm trees-you can't go wrong.
